Collecting Your Baby Eclectus Travel The   ideal   carrier   to   collect   your   baby   eclectus   is   not   in   a   cage   but   in   a   pet   carrier,   these   are   designed   for   cats   and   dogs,   they   are   designed   to   give   the   animal some   privacy   by   having   solid   sides   with   some   slits   to   allow   light.   They   are   made   from   sturdy   plastic   which   are   very   easy   to   clean   and   of   course   they   have   a convenient   handle.   The   mesh   door   allows   you   to   interact   and   you   can   hang   bowls   of   food   and   water   if   your   journey   is   long.   Newspaper   is   used   on   the   carrier floor. These carriers can then be used if you ever need to travel with your bird in the future such as vet visits etc. Cages   on   the   other   hand   are   not   ideal,   the   eclectus   baby   feels   very   exposed   and   it   will   be   stressed   enough   by   being   with   new   people.   The   bird   could   start chewing   your   car   interior   through   the   bars   as   they   are   curious.   If   your   journey   entails   some   driving   in   the night,   the   bird   will   be   exposed   to   bright   headlamps   which   can   lead   to   the   bird   thrashing   about   through fright.      A   cage   usually   has   perches   which   the   baby   finds   difficult   to   balance   on   as   you brake,   accelerate   and   go   around   corners.   Also   a   cage   is   not   as   strong   and   secure   if   it   is dropped compared to a pet carrier. Collection Times Ideally   you   want   to   collect   your   bird   in   the      morning.   This   allows   you   to   travel back   home   in   daylight,   head   lamps   and   parrots   do   not   seem   to   get   on.   Once home   you   can   place   your   new   eclectus   in   its   new   cage   and   it   will   take   time   for   it to   get   used   to   it’s   surroundings.   Whilst   it’s   day   light   it   will   see   its   food   and   water sources   and   hopefully   be   confident   to   come   down   and   eat   if   it’s   left   alone.   The   last thing   you   want   is   a   bird   to   arrive   in   the   dark   and   then   go   through   the   night   without eating,   in   the   same   respect   you   don’t   want   to   leave   a   light   on   all   night   as   it   may   be   too bright for the baby to settle down.                                                                                                                                                                                      If   your   journey   is   for   3-4   hours,   then   your   baby   will   not   need   a   lot   of   food   and   water,   a simple   option   is   to   place   a   slice   of      fruit   in   its   carrier   such   as   apple.   From   this   the   bird   will   be   able to   gain   food   and   water.   If   you   are   travelling   further   afield   or   may   have   stops   to   make   which   will lengthen   your   journey   time   considerably,   it   is   worth   buying   two   stainless   steel   pots   which   you   can   clip   onto the   wire   of   your   carrier.   These   can   be   used   to   provide   food   and   water   for   your   bird.   You   do   not   need   to   provide the fruit or seed for your journey, I will supply this.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            I   supply   the   pet   carrier   as   part   of   the   package   now,   I   have   lent   enough      carriers   in   the   past   to   prospective   owners   who   have forgot to bring one  and not many have sadly been returned back to me.
